Windows 11 Update Issues with Builds 23H2 and 24H2
Daniel Grigoras
After joining the Windows Insider Program on Windows 11 Build 23H2, I encountered a persistent issue where Windows Update repeatedly attempted—and failed—to reinstall Build 23H2 over itself. This resulted in the error: Install error - 0xc1900101, leaving Windows Update completely stuck.
Windows Installation Assistant for Build 24H2 was also unsuccessful, as it repeatedly failed to install Build 24H2. Consequently, Windows Update remains non-functional.
Using the Reset Windows Update Tool to reset the Windows Update Components removed the failed install of Build 23H2 from Windows Update after a restart, but after trying and failing to install Build 24H2 using Windows Installation Assistant, it appeared again.
I experienced this issue on an Asus Zenbook S 13 UX5304MA with an Intel Core Ultra 155U. The device is also unable to hibernate and always starts fresh upon waking up. Asus support suggested that updating to Build 24H2 might resolve these issues, but I am unable to install it due to the faulty Windows Update service.
I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.

I realized that this is caused by replacing the factory-installed 1TB Micron SSD with a 4TB Kingston SSD.
